The Shetland 570 is an extremely versatile boat for sensible money, its cathedral hull (originally designed for offshore racing) gives it good handling for water skiing but also great stability for coastal sea fishing. It’s big enough to do most things but small enough to tow with a normal car. It’s a great family boat, with nice safe high sides, foam filled double skin hull, thick GRP hull much stronger than modern boats, capacity for 6, a cuddy to warm up in and a double bed if you want to sleep out. It also has an original rear cover so you can use the rear deck in bad weather (useful in Scotland).
The good stuff
- 115HP mercury outboard (the maximum power for the boat) – this gives the boat a top speed of 36MPH. This had a full-service last year including a new impeller, new oil in the leg, carb balanced and a new 3 blade prop.
- Very original boat, complete with most of its original fittings. Sold with both captain’s seats (one is in storge).
- When not in use it’s been stored in a dry garage since 2017.
- Very light use with us, only used for a few family holidays.
- Always stored with fuel stabiliser.
- Generally, in very good original condition for a boat of this age.
- Comes with transport trailer, this a leaf suspension, working brakes, new rear bunks and new front rollers.
- Lots of new wiring fitted last year including wiring for two batteries (boat will be sold with one), battery isolator, USB on the dash where you drive the boat.
- Original navigation lights.
- Full canopy.
- Well worn but functional fitted transport cover.
- Comes with one 20ltr plastic fuel containers, bumpers, anchor, ski rope and donut type pull toy.
The not as good stuff
- The original gas cooker is missing.
- The boat has various minor scuffs.
- The original depth finder doesn’t work but looks great so I left it in place.
- The trailer is functional but old with an old-style Bradley hitch.
- Some staining to the headliner in the interior, minor leak from the sunroof hatch, needs a new seal.
- Discolored plastic windows on the up and over canopy.
- Stored in Huddersfield, not exactly the boating center of the UK!
